What is two-way quarantine free travel?

This allows airlines and airports to operate ‘quarantine free’, also known as ‘Green’ flights between New Zealand and approved safe travel zone destinations without the requirement of quarantine on arrival.

Quarantine free travel is not guaranteed and is subject to change at short notice.

Eligibility to travel quarantine free to New Zealand

To be eligible to travel quarantine-free on a green flight, you must:

  • in the 14-day period before travel, been in New Zealand or a country (or part of a country) that has been designated as a quarantine-free-place.
  • during the 14-day period before travel, not had a positive COVID-19 test (or if you have, you have written advice from a health practitioner that you are no longer infectious).
  • not be awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test that was undergone during the 14-day period.
  • are not experiencing any of the following symptoms with or without fever:
    • new or worsening cough
    • sore throat
    • shortness of breath
    • runny nose
    • loss of sense of smell
    • fever (at least 38 degrees celsius

Once you arrive at the airport, you will need to undertake a screening declaration process. This will take place on our Kiosks or in-person, please ensure you give yourself extra time ahead of your flight departure time.

How to prepare for quarantine free travel

  • Visit arriving and departing government and state COVID-19 websites for a list of detailed entry, health and documentation requirements.
  • Be prepared for changes to the conditions of travelling, due to an outbreak of COVID-19, this could mean you may not be able to travel on the date originally booked.
  • Arrive at airports earlier than normal to allow time for processing of additional checks even if checking in online.
