Itinerary

Day 1 - DAY 1 San José, Costa Rica
Welcome to Costa Rica! Warmly greeted, you’ll be transferred from the San Jose airport to the Intercontinental Hotel (or similar) for your overnight. Rest after your day of travel or explore San Jose on your own.
Day 2 - DAY 2 San Jose / Caldera – Embarkation
The morning is yours to enjoy as you wish—take advantage of the hotel’s amenities and lunch at a restaurant nearby. An afternoon transfer with your new shipmates brings you to Caldera Port and the Safari Voyager. The captain and crew help you settle in to your new home for a week’s worth of wonder. Sail north with a celebratory glass of champagne.
Day 3 - DAY 3 Papagayo Gulf
Postcard-worthy beaches and dry tropical forest are signature landscapes along Papagayo Gulf. Get your feet wet on this first day of adventure and water activities. Kayak and paddle board through the gulf’s deep blue-green water. If conditions are right, snorkel for bright tropical fish, green sea turtles, and elusive octopuses. And take a sand-between-your-toes stroll or lounge on a tranquil Papagayo beach. Known for epic sunsets, complete your day with a cool beverage and fiery show from the ship’s deck.
Day 4 - DAY 4 Guanacaste / Santa Rosa National Park
On the north Pacific coast of Guanacaste sits Santa Rosa National Park—protected home to a significant number of sea turtle nesting sites. Check into the park at the Murcielago Islands station, then set out for a quiet cove and a day of water ops. The Guanacaste shores are some of Costa Rica’s best for seeking life below the surface, so take it all in.
Day 5 - DAY 5 Curú National Wildlife Refuge
At the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, dry tropical forest meets wet tropical forest. Today, explore the unique flora and fauna Curú National Wildlife Refuge. The lush trees teem with life—scarlet macaws, parrots, motmots, spider and howler monkeys, iguanas, lizards, butterflies. Count how many species you find on a hike through the forest. Afterwards, you’ll find the blue waters near Isla Tortuga refreshingly irresistible. Snorkel, kayak, paddle board—make a splash!
Day 6 - DAY 6 Manuel Antonio National Park
There’s no question, this forest is alive—feel the vibrant energy of the jungle all around you. When howler monkeys begin to bellow, that feeling amplifies. Manuel Antonio National Park is a haven for an astounding diversity of life nestled among 340-plus species of plants that grow here. Two- and three-toed sloths, white-faced capuchins, basilisks, iguanas, and over a hundred bird species—watch for the park’s many residents on a guided jungle hike.
Day 7 - DAY 7 Golfo Dulce
Aptly named, Golfo Dulce—or “sweet gulf”—is a sweet spot for biodiversity. Kayak and skiff through mangrove waterways. The forest hums with chattering birds, monkeys, and insects. Keep an eye out for caimans, crabs, fish, and egrets. A tour through a botanical preserve reveals flowering tropical treasures—bromeliads, ginger plants, and heliconias. Hummingbirds and butterflies, too. Take in the sights, sounds, and smells from every tree and bush, uncovering the gulf’s ambrosial secrets. At the end of the day, watch a lightshow of bioluminescence from the bow of the Safari Voyager.
Day 8 - DAY 8 Osa Conservation Area
Adventure opportunities are as rich as the biodiversity you’ll encounter. Sloths, hummingbirds, macaws, cotingas, frogs, stick bugs, army ants, and all four of the country’s monkeys… it’s no wonder the Osa Conservation area has earned the nickname of “most biologically intense place on earth.” Go deep—hike the jungle looking high and low for wildlife in the dense vegetation. Watch for both big and small natural wonders—it’s all around you here. Tonight, celebrate your adventure and the pura vida of Costa Rica at a special farewell dinner, complete with a slideshow by your expedition team.
Day 9 - DAY 9 Caldera / San Jose – Disembarkation
After breakfast aboard the Safari Voyager, you’ll be transferred to San Jose for your flight home.
Day 10 - Please Note:
Passport required. Itineraries are guidelines; variations in itinerary and the order of days may occur to maximize your experience.
