Vessel Type: Small Ship Length: 87 metres Passenger Capacity: 103 Built / refurbished: 1960 / 2013 / 2019 The MS Serenissima offers an intimate Arctic cruising experience along Spitsbergen’s west coast, combining classic ocean liner charm with modern amenities. Built in 1960 and most recently refurbished in 2019, the ship accommodates 103 guests in cozy cabins and spacious suites, some with private balconies or bathtubs. Public spaces include the Venice Restaurant with panoramic views, the Andrea and Harald Jarl lounges, and expansive observation decks, providing comfortable areas to relax and enjoy the Arctic scenery. Days aboard focus on exploration, supported by a knowledgeable local expedition team fluent in multiple languages, offering insights into Svalbard’s wildlife, culture, and history. Guests can enjoy guided sightseeing tours, including Longyearbyen and Camp Barentz, while onboard amenities ensure comfort with en-suite cabins, dining with fresh ingredients, and relaxing lounges. The MS Serenissima provides a balanced combination of adventure and comfort for discovering the remote and pristine wilderness of Svalbard.

Itinerary



Day 1 - Day 1: Mining History and Arctic Nature
Location: Longyearbyen  Summary: Arrival in Longyearbyen, explore the town, and enjoy a light dinner at your hotel restaurant. Overnight stay at either Radisson Blu Polar Hotel or Funken Lodge, depending on your cabin category.
Day 2 - Day 2: Settlements of the Far North
Location: Longyearbyen and Isfjorden  Summary: Morning at leisure in Longyearbyen, followed by lunch at your hotel and then a guided tour including the Svalbard Museum and Camp Barentz. In the early evening embark on the MS Serenissima and sail through Isfjorden, observing Arctic wildlife and historical sites. 
Day 3 - Day 3: Into the Arctic Wilderness
Location: Magdalenefjorden and the North West Corner  Summary: Enter remote Arctic areas without communication signals, and explore Magdalenefjorden's alpine-like scenery, historical whaling sites, and rich birdlife. Potential landing depends on weather and ice conditions. 
Day 4 - Day 4: Scouting for wildlife
Location: Woodfjorden, Liefdefjorden, Moffen, and 80° North  Summary: Explore the diverse landscapes of Woodfjorden and Liefdefjorden, and scan for polar bears and other wildlife. If conditions allow, sail above 80° North and approach Moffen Island, known for its walrus population. 
Day 5 - Day 5: Fjords, Glaciers, and Research
location: Kongsfjorden and Ny-Ålesund  Summary: Discover the scenic Kongsfjorden, hike on the tundra, and visit the research settlement of Ny-Ålesund. Learn about Arctic exploration history and send a postcard from the northernmost post office in the world. Upon arrival in Ny-Ålesund, the ship will dock at the pier, and passengers can disembark directly from the ship onto land. 
Day 6 - Day 6: Flying Home from the Arctic
Location: Longyearbyen  Summary: Departure day, with transfer from the ship to Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen. From here you have another opportunity to explore Longyearbyen and buy souvenirs before a transfer to the airport.
