Itinerary

ITINERARY CHANGES Our itineraries are updated regularly throughout the year based on customer feedback and to reflect the current situation in each destination. The information included in this Essential Trip Information may therefore differ from when you first booked your trip. It is important that you review this information prior to travel so that you have the latest updates. Due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays, or other factors, further changes may be necessary to your itinerary once in-country. The order and timing of included activities in each location may also vary seasonally to ensure our travellers have the best experience. Your tour leader will keep you up to date with any such changes once on tour. OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES A selection of optional activities that have been popular with past travellers are listed in the day-to-day itinerary. This isn't an exhaustive list and should be used as a guide only for some of what might be available. Prices are approximate, are for entrance only, and don’t include transport to and from the sites or local guides unless indicated. All activities are subject to availability, and maybe on a join-in basis. It may not be possible to do all the activities listed in the time available at each destination, so some pre-planning for what you are most interested in is advised. When it's recommended that travellers pre-book these activities, look for a note in the Special Information section of the day-to-day itinerary. For most, they can either be organised independently on the day, or let your leader know you are interested in the Group Meeting and they can assist. Where activities are considered medium or high risk, we work with operators whose safety and credentials we have sighted and assessed. Although it is possible that you may find the same activity cheaper with another operator on the ground, we cannot vouch for the safety or quality of that operator. Medium and high-risk activities not listed above have not been assessed by us and as such our staff and leaders are unable to assist you with organising these activities. Activities that contravene our Responsible Travel policies are also not listed. Please remember that the decision to partake in any activity not listed is at your own discretion and risk.

Day 1 - Bardia National Park
Namaste! Welcome to Nepal. Please meet at our Kathmandu office, the location of which is listed in the 'Joining Point' section of the Essential Trip Information, the day prior to departure at 5 pm for a meeting. This morning you'll take a morning flight to Nepalgunj (approximately 2 hours) – try and snatch a window seat, because on a clear day, you’ll be able to marvel at the mighty Himalayan mountain range below. On arrival, you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel, located on the fringe of Bardia National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Once you’ve checked in and freshened up, take a tour with your local guide through a Tharu village nearby, where you’ll learn a little bit more about the lifestyle of this ethnic group from the southern foothills of the Himalayas. Afterwards, come together for a wildlife information session to learn about the national park and the animal kingdom you’ll be exploring in the next coming days!
Day 2 - Bardia National Park
After breakfast, embark on a safari with a local guide and expert tiger tracker. Today is an excellent opportunity to see the Royal Bengal tiger out in the wild. It is estimated that no more than around 250 of these tigers still roam free in Nepal, however Bardia National Park is home to a large proportion of these. Keep your eye out for these, as well as the rare one-horned rhinos, peacocks, Asian elephants, kingfisher birds, marsh mugger and gharial crocodiles, deer and wild boar.
Day 3 - Bardia National Park
This morning, take a safari to see Bardia alive with the sights and sounds of its inhabitants. Let your guides point out to you different species and how they coexist in the wild. In the evening, you’ll be treated to a local cultural dance by Tharu people at the hotel premises. You may not have heard of this Nepali ethnic group, but they’ll be sure to make you and your group feel welcome and enjoy their traditional customs.
Day 4 - Bardia National Park
Go for a nature walk after breakfast, where you’ll be taken through the difficult art of bird watching. This morning is an ideal opportunity to see rare birds in their natural habitat, including the colourful kingfisher. While walking along the Karnali River, try to spot one of the critically endangered gangetic fresh-water dolphins. Chances are low, but if you were to see one, it would be here. After lunch, transfer back to Nepalgunj Airport for an evening flight bound for Kathmandu. Your Short Break Adventure will finish upon arrival at Kathmandu airport.
