South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula is one of the undisputed most beautiful coastal regions in Australia. This trip visits the stunning Flinders Ranges which in 2016 renamed Ikara-Flinders Ranges was the Adnyamathanha work which means ‘meeting place’. Head south to the Eyre Peninsula and experience some truly breathtaking experiences like swimming with sealions.

The information included in this Essential Trip Information may therefore differ from when you first booked your trip. It is important that you print and review a final copy prior to travel so that you have the latest updates. Due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays or other factors, further changes may be necessary to your itinerary once in country. The order and timing of included activities in each location may also vary seasonally to ensure our travellers have the best experience. Your tour leader will keep you up to date with any changes once on tour. OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES: A selection of optional activities that have been popular with past travellers are listed in the day-to-day itinerary. This isn't an exhaustive list and should be used as a guide only for some of what might be available. Prices are approximate, are for entrance only, and don’t include transport to and from the sites or local guides unless indicated. All activities are subject to availability. It may not be possible to do all the activities listed in the time available at each destination, so some pre-planning for what you are most interested in is advised. When it's recommended that travellers pre-book these activities, look for a note in the Special Information section of the day-to-day itinerary. For most, they can either be organised independently on the day, or let your leader know you are interested and they can assist. Where activities are considered medium or high risk, we work with operators whose safety and credentials we have sighted and assessed. Although it is possible that you may find the same activity cheaper with another operator on the ground, we cannot vouch for the safety or quality of that operator. Medium and high risk activities not listed above have not been assessed by us and as such our staff and leaders are unable to assist you with organising these activities. Activities that contravene our Responsible Travel policies are also not listed. Please remember that the decision to partake in any activity not listed is at your own discretion and risk. Swim with Australian Sealions & Dolphins from $150-$160 Witnessing the rare and endangered Australian Sea Lions and dolphins in their natural habitat is one of the most life-enhancing experiences. The inquisitive, gentle nature of these stunning sea creatures is unparalleled in the underwater world. Your day, swimming with the sea lions set off on a half-day tour to the crystal clear waters of Seal Cove, where the gorgeous puppies of the sea welcome your arrival as they bound toward the boat with their unmistakable glee and excitement; performing somersaults and graceful swirls, inviting you to join in!

Day 1 - Adelaide - Flinders Ranges National Park
Welcome to Adelaide. With its many festivals and great live music scene, South Australia’s state capital prides itself on being Australia’s arts hub – but we love it just as much for its proximity to some of the world’s greatest wines. If you arrive in Adelaide a few days prior to your Overland adventure starting, make sure to try some choice drops from the Barossa or a McLaren Vale shiraz. This trip begins leaves the city pretty early on Day 1 (6am), stopping for a quick coffee in Clare (another great wine region), and then continuing on to the Flinders Ranges National Park. There’ll be time for a stretch of the legs at Alligator Gorge, which offers some of the most spectacular and colourful rock formations in the national park, before lunch in Quorn – home of the Pichi Richi Railway. You’ll also enjoy a guided walk to the top of the ranges at Dutchman’s Stern. Tonight’s campsite is in Warren Gorge. As the sun is setting and while your evening meal is being prepared, you will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Warren gorge here in the Flinders Ranges. It’s here that you’ll get the opportunity to spot a Yellow-Footed rock wallaby. Almost driven to extinction by introduced ‘Feral’ animals, at Warren Gorge they are beginning to ‘bounce back!’ Notes: Total driving time is approximately 4 hours, walking time approximately 2 hours.
Day 2 - Venus Bay
Its an early morning start for the incredible Dutchmans Stern hike before travelling to the wild and beautiful Eyre Peninsula, one of Australia’s best kept secrets. See some unique outback silo art in the tiny town of Kimba, and after a quick pit stop for lunch, it’s time to head to the coast to explore Venus Bay where you’ll often spot dolphins surfing the waves and, Talia Caves. After heading through Port Augusta, stop for lunch in the tiny town of Kimba – the midway point between coasts east and west and home of the Big Galah – a seven metre tall statue of the native bird. Continue the drive across the peninsula, arriving at the coast and Coodlie Park Farm Retreat in the afternoon. Notes: Driving time is approximately 5 hours, walking time approximately 1.5 hours. Please also note that tomorrow you will be swapping buses and joining the other group coming from Perth.
Day 3 - Baird Bay
This morning, join up with the group that are coming from Perth and heading to Adelaide, and head out to swim with the ever-cheeky and playful sea lions and dolphins. You’ll travel up the shore to Baird Bay, a pristine coastline and sanctuary for a multitude of land and sea animals. This activity is run by Baird Bay Eco Tours and is optional, but if you choose to participate it’s something that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Wild but not shy, these new flippered friends will often bound into the water, keen to show you their tricks – they duck, dive, roll, race, somersault and swirl in their efforts to show off on this 3-4 hour tour. Stop for lunch at the picnic stop at Bairds, then continue on to Murphy’s Haystacks, incredible, ancient pink granite boulders sculptured into wondrous and weird shapes over millions of years. Then it’s on to Talia Caves, great granite tubes carved by the sea, and the Lake Newland sand dunes, where you’ll have the chance to go sandboarding. After a full day you’ll return to Coodlie Park Bush camp for the night. Notes: Driving time is approximately 3 hours, walking time is approximately 1 hour
Day 4 - Port Lincoln
This morning test out your sand boarding skills in the Lake Newland Conservation Park sand dunes then explore the spectacular Eyre Peninsula coastline before heading to Port Lincoln – the Seafood Capital of Australia. Enjoy delicious lunch on the foreshore and afterwards stretch your legs with a wander around the town – we’ve put aside some time here for you to stroll along the foreshore, survey the scenery or kick back with a cool drink in a café. We’ll make a short drive onto our campsite for the night at Mikkira Station, a private campground surrounded by eucalyptus trees and plenty of neighbourly koalas. Driving is about 3 hours and walking time is about 2 hours.
Day 5 - Lincoln National Park - Mt Remarkable
Visit Lincoln National Park, which features some of the most scenic coastline in South Australia. Travel along Whalers Way coastal drive to see breathtaking coastline and some of the oldest rocks in Australia and you’ll be spotting abundant native Australian wildlife such as emus and kangaroos in the sanctuary. Head to Mt. Remarkable National Park to set up camp for the night. We visit Wadlata Cultural Centre and have an interpretive walk through the life of the new frontier pioneers of South Australia. Please note: driving time today is approximately 4 hours
Day 6 - Mt Remarkable - Adelaide
This morning we’ll embark on our last hike of the tour - Davey’s Gully Walk in Mt Remarkable National Park, before hitting the road back to Adelaide and travelling through some of South Australia pioneer mining towns. Drive time today is about 5 hours and this overland adventure ends up on arrival in Adelaide. You’ll get your breakfast and lunch and although there are no formal activities planned it is usual for the group to get together and reflect on their adventure together over a few drinks and meal
