Description

We sail from the small harbour of Oreous on the lovely Greek Island of Evia to the Sporades Islands of Skiathos, Skopelos andf Alonissos. There are 21 uninhabited islands in the Sporades and we will visit several during our weeks sailing. We will stop for a swim every day for lunch, a swim, snorkelling, kayaking or just to relax an sunbathe.

We will have time to visit the ‘Mama Mia’ church on Skiathos and the beautiful village of Trikeri, on the Pelion Peninsula. The captain will decide where to stay on 2-3 nights, depending on the conditions at the time. (see map).

We start cruising every day after breakfast for one or two hours navigation, mostly hugging the coast, before landing in a beautiful cove. You can swim, snorkel, paddle or sunbathe while the crew prepares a meal based on the Mediterranean diet (fresh produce, cooking with olive oil). Our meals include appetizer, main course and dessert. Drinks on board are in “open bar”.

After a nap on the comfortable sun beds or more bathing, we go to the port of the next island (one or two hours of navigation), where you can visit or simply stroll and explore the cafes and local taverns. The boat remains at overnight in port, so you can come back whenever you want, after, according to your taste, appetite and budget, dining on souvlaki, Greek salad or a fresh lobster. Sometimes we enjoy a night at anchor in a beautiful bay, under the stars (dinner on board then).

This cruise includes transfers to and from Athens airport on days 1 & 8 of the cruise.

Overview
Kapaten Kosmas is an 88 feet long wooden hulled gulet, sailing under the Greek flag. She sails the Sporades Islands in July and August from the harbour at Oreous, and the transfer from Athens Airport is included in the price. Kosmas has 5 double cabins with en-suite facilities, a master VIP cabin and 4 doubles, 1 with an extra bunk and one with 2 bunks. There is a lovely inddor and outdoor dining area and plenty of space on deck for relaxing and sun bathing.  She is allowed to sail with winds of 6 Beaufort and stronger whereas other professional boats up to 83 feet are not (but we avoid this situation if possible!). And the sails are not here just for decoration. Kapetan Kosmas has around 200 square meters sails. There is a tender with Yamaha outboard engine, autopilot, 2 VHF, 2 GPS and the electronic standard equipment. There is always 220AC for charge any telephone or other items like cameras or MP3 players and a WIFI/3G connection free for email use (not to download movies ;-). There is a paddle and kayak on board, snorkeling equipment, some fishing lines, and the possibility to connect your MP3 player to the yacht stereo. The bar is open for basic beverages (refreshment or beers) and you can also bring and drink your bottles without extra-charge. There is a large sunbathing area with sun beds... Bed linen and hand towels provided - please bring your own beach towel. Everything to enjoy a comfortable cruise with also very good food - breakfast and one lunch or dinner on board! Renovated in 2017/2018 (shower boxes, top marine toilets with selenoid, stern thruster, new soundless generator, saloon leather etc...) Kapetan Kosmas is a wooden gulet registered as professional sailing boat by the Greek Authorities.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Day 1. Oreous
Meet either at Athens Airport at 16.30 or the port or Oreous on the Island of Evia. We will spend the first night on board our vessel in Oreous Port.
Day 2 - Day 2. Skopelos
We cruise or sail to Skopleos with a stop for lunch at the tiny uninhabited islet of Pontikonisi. We usually spend the night in the small bay and smaller harbour of Agnontas on Skopelos. The bay is well known for its fish restaurants and the harbour is usually lined with small fishing boats - The fish is just about as fresh as it comes.
Day 3 - Day 3-4. Skopelos and Alonissos
We will explore Skopelos and Alonissos, stopping in some tiny bays to swim, snorkel and relax, and spending the evenings either in very small ports on in a secluded bay, at the captain's discretion. These islands rely on crops of grapes, almonds, figs and olives for their livelihood, as well as fishing. Alonissos covers just 25 square miles and has a population of around 2500. Skopelos, home to the 'Mama Mia' church. Skopelos is one of the most forested of the Greek Islands.
Day 4 - Day 5. Skiathos.
Skiathos is beach country, and so more visited by tourists than some of the other islands. Don't let that put you off, they come here for good reason.
Day 5 - Day 6. Trikeri
The beautiful village of Trikeri sits on the Pelion Peninsula. The village climbs up the hillside and was a maritime base for many years, and many of the grander houses belonged to ship's captains of old. This is a very traditional village and one of our favourite stops.
Day 6 - Day 7. Oreous
We spend our last night back in Oreous, having stopped for a last swim and snorkel in a bay on a remote peninsula.
Day 7 - Day 8 disembark
We disembark in Oreous at 9AM and transfer back to Athens Airport. We expect to arrive at Athens Airport at about 13.00.
