Day 1 - Day 1 - Tema (Accra)
Tema, Ghana's main commercial port and gateway to Accra, connects the capital to a coastline still visited by gannets, kingfishers, and boobies in waters relatively undisturbed by coastal development. The Accra train link, the historic streets of James Town, and the National Museum make the 30-kilometre journey to the capital one of West Africa's more rewarding port-to-city excursions.
Day 2 - Day 2 - Cotonou
Tucked between Nigeria and Togo, Cotonou is Benin's busy trading port and effective capital, sitting between the Atlantic coast and Lake Nokoue. Named a market town for its coastal placement and trades in palm oil and textiles, it is a colourful port alive with commerce. Although Porto-Novo is the official capital, Cotonou is the undisputed centre of the country's trading industry.
Day 3 - Day 3 - Lomé
Lome is the capital of Togo and a city of over 40 different tribes, making it one of the most culturally diverse cities on the West African coast. The daily market offers tribal crafts, fresh fruit, fabrics, and voodoo spirit dolls. Voodoo ceremonies, which merge African and Christian beliefs, are still widely practised across the country.
Day 4 - Day 4 - Takoradi
Takoradi is the gateway to Ghana's UNESCO World Heritage slave castles of Elmina and Cape Coast — monuments to the transatlantic slave trade of haunting and essential historical significance. The city's beaches, fresh seafood market, and the commercial energy of Market Circle offer a genuine encounter with contemporary Ghana alongside one of West Africa's most important historical destinations.

The beach's development by a French company in the 1960s created a small resort community that retains a genuinely unhurried character.
