Venture out on a 12-day trip through the remote Arctic wilderness of East Greenland. Start your journey in Reykjavik, then visit the fishing village of Kuummiut, the ruins of a US airbase from WWII in Ikateq and the historic trading post of Tasiilaq, where you’ll watch artists at work at the Stunk Artisan Workshop. Gaze up at towering fjords and Arctic seabirds overhead. Learn about the region’s ecology and geology from the expert Expedition Team who will join you throughout the trip, then witness the local wildlife firsthand – keep an eye out for polar bears, reindeer, bowhead whales and walruses. Weather permitting, you’ll top it all off with a rare landing on the Blosseville Coast.
- Learn about Tunumiit culture in Tasiilaq – this town is East Greenland’s largest settlement and is the birthplace of the artform of tupilak. Watch local artists at work at the Stunk Artisan Workshop.
- Visit one of the most remote communities in the world at Ittoqqortoormiit, where locals maintain a hunting lifestyle. Explore the local museum and church as you learn about daily life here.
- Wander the largest national park in the world at Northeast Greenland National Park – spend three days exploring all the one million square km of parklands, including glaciers, fjords, abundant wildlife and 1300-m-tall cliffs.
- See the ruins of a US airbase from WWII in the deserted village of Ikateq, located at the entrance to the grand Sermilik fjord.
- Spot wildlife like Arctic foxes, bowhead whales, reindeer, walruses, seabirds like Arctic skuas and maybe even the elusive polar bear.
