Sail on board Magellan Explorer to the Falkland Islands (Las Malvinas), South Georgia, and Antarctica with this 20-day expedition. Embark in Punta Arenas, Chile, and navigate to the Falklands, where you will enjoy watching interesting native wildlife like the Rockhopper Penguin and Black-browed albatrosses. Connect with the locals who have called this archipelago home for generations. From there, set sail for South Georgia. Visit one of the world’s largest king penguin colonies and watch elephant seals relaxing on the shores. Then cruise along the Antarctic Peninsula and among the South Shetland Islands, visiting sites in the Antarctic Sound and in the Gerlache Strait.

Overview
Vessel Type: Expedition Length: 90.7 m - 298 ft. Passenger Capacity: 100 (only 69 passengers for Air-Cruise operations) Built: 2018 MV Magellan Explorer features 50 passenger suites and cabins in five categories of accommodation, including dedicated single cabins. The cabins are very spacious, ranging in size from 40 m2 (440 sq. ft.) to 20 m2 (220 sq. ft.). All double cabins have two twin beds that can be configured as one queen-size bed, offering great flexibility to our guests. 42 cabins feature a large window and a private balcony, while 8 cabins feature a porthole. All cabins feature a private bathroom and a sitting area. Public areas include a large, forward-facing observation lounge, an observation deck, a dining room that accommodates all guests and expedition staff in a single sitting, two meeting rooms, a gift shop, a protected outdoor barbecue area, a gym, and a sauna. The bow of the ship is accessible to guests to offer expansive views during exploration. Optional adventure activities, such as kayaking and snowshoeing, are available. Specific measures have been taken to minimize MV Magellan Explorer’s carbon footprint, including state-of-the-art engines that meet MARPOL’s stringent Tier III emission standards. To minimize fuel consumption, a waste heat recovery system recycles the heat produced by the ship’s engines and repurposes it to power the ship’s heating system and to warm the water used on board.

Day 1 - Day 1 Punta Arenas, Embarkation
From 9:00 hrs., make your way to Explorers House in Punta Arenas and enjoy Antarctica21's exclusive expedition center. At 16:00 hrs., a group transfer will take you to the port for embarkation. As we sail along the Strait of Magellan, our Expedition Team will introduce the history of this fabled sea route.
Day 2 - Day 2 At Sea
Enjoy the ship’s hospitality as we make our way to the Falklands (Malvinas). Our engaging series of lectures and presentations begins.
Day 3 - Day 3 Saunders Island, Carcass Island
During a morning visit to Saunders Island, we enjoy the long white-sand beach. During this wilderness experience, the main attractions are observing rockhopper penguins, nesting black-browed albatross, and sub-Antarctic gentoo penguins. In the afternoon, we visit Carcass Island. There is an option for an easy hike to the settlement, bird watching, and a typical Falklands tea experience.
Day 4 - Day 4 Port Stanley
Join our expedition team on guided walking tours of Port Stanley or Gipsy Cove. Or explore on your own and absorb the atmosphere of this isolated outpost in the South Atlantic.
Day 5 - Day 5 -6 At Sea

Day 6 - Day 7 Elsehul Bay
Our first landing is at Grytviken. We clear Customs and then visit the historical site with the South Georgia Museum and Ernest Shackleton's grave. In the afternoon, we land at Fortuna Bay / Stromness to see king penguins. Here we learn more about Shackleton and his expedition, and there is also an optional 2-3 hour "Shackleton walk."
Day 7 - Day 8 Grytviken, Fortuna Bay / Stromness
Morning landing at Grytviken. We’ll clear Customs here, then visit the historical site featuring the museum and Ernest Shackleton’s grave. In the afternoon, we plan for a landing at Fortuna Bay / Stromness. We’ll see king penguins and learn more about Shackleton and his expedition. There is an optional 2-3 hour “Shackleton walk.
Day 8 - Day 9 Salisbury Plain, Prion Island
Morning visit to Salisbury Plain to observe more king penguins and stunning landscapes. In the afternoon, visit Prion Island to see the nesting wandering albatross.
Day 9 - Day 10 Drygalsky Fjord
In the morning, we visit St. Andrews Bay, home to one of the largest king penguin colonies and impressive elephant seal bulls. If weather allows, we will perform a ship cruise across the Dryglasky Fjord in the afternoon.
Day 10 - Day 11 - 12 At Sea

Day 11 - Day 13 Elephant Island
In the afternoon, we will see Elephant Island. While a landing here is unlikely, we will see the island from the ship or, if sea conditions allow, from a Zodiac.
Day 12 - Day 14 - 17 Antarctic Peninsula & South Shetland Islands
We cruise along the Antarctic Peninsula and among the South Shetland Islands, visiting sites in the Antarctic Sound and the Gerlache Strait. The voyage may include visits to sites such as Gourdin Island, Brown Bluff, Half Moon Island, Deception Island, Wilhelmina Bay, the Lemaire Channel, Cuverville Island, the Melchior Islands, or other magnificent places.
Day 13 - Day 18 - 19 At Sea
