Great local experiences for solo travellers

If you’re heading off on an adventure solo and looking to add a unique local experience to your itinerary, we have the perfect solution!

An Urban Adventure is a great addition to any travel itinerary – with options in over 150 destinations all over the world! These are great for all travellers, and you can fit them in before or after scheduled small group tours. However, we find if you are travelling on your own and not on a group tour, these short day/half-day experiences are an ideal way to include a local activity and meet other travellers as well!

There are over 1300 unique itineraries available, with a range of themes and styles to choose from. To help give you an idea of the types of experiences on offer – we’ve put together some of our favourites below.

Prague Beer & Czech Tapas Tour – Prague, Czech Republic

Start time: 5pm – Duration 4 hours

Beer is a popular drink among travellers, and when travelling through Europe the options are endless. Prague is known as one of the best cities in the world for drinking beer – and this tour was voted the best beer tour in the world by Trip Advisor users in both 2018 and 2019! Visit four of Prague’s true local favourite beer halls and a microbrewery (in less touristy districts), while sampling typical Czech tapas along the way. You’ll also learn about the Czech/Bohemian lifestyle and beer culture from the Middle Ages through Communism, all the way to the present.

Street Food by Night – Hanoi, Vietnam

Start time: 5pm – Duration 3 hours

Street food is fast, fresh, cheap and a fantastic way to learn about local culture. The best way to find the most delicious food – is with the help of a local of course. This short evening tour will take you through the Hanoi food scene to source the best street eats from markets, food carts, street cafes and other hard to find secret spots.

Bikesplore Galle – Galle, Sri Lanka

Start time: 8am – Duration 4 hours

The beautiful seaside town of Galle in Southern Sri Lanka offers travellers picture perfect scenery, and a welcome break from the city. This bike tour is a great way to get active and take in all that Galle has to offer. On this 20km bike ride you’ll pass rice paddies, ornate temples, local fishermen, and the stunning Koggala Lake, before hopping into a tuk-tuk to enjoy a relaxing ride along the magnificent coastline. An ideal way to meet locals and learn about this fascinating part of Sri Lanka.

Maya Underworld Explorer – Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Start time: 8am – Duration 5 hours

Playa del Carmen is known for its incredible beaches and fascinating history, but did you know it’s also home to an astonishing Maya underworld?! This 5 hour tour will take you to explore underground rivers and caves, see otherworldly stalactites and stalagmites, swim in crystal-clear cenotes, and walk through the jungle! You’ll also learn about local history and culture, finishing off with a traditional Maya ceremony.

Home Cooked Aswan – Aswan, Egypt

Enjoy a delicious home cooked Nubian meal with a local family in Aswan. Not only will you get to sample these home cooked dishes, but you’ll get the opportunity to sit with the host family and learn about Nubian culture, history and traditions. There’s no better was to learn about a destination than sharing a meal with the locals!

Rio Jungle Bike Tour – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Start time: 8am – Duration 5 hours

An unforgettable active adventure into the Brazillian rainforest, taking in the beautiful nature that lies in the Tijuca Forest. Beginning with incredible views of Rio de Janeiro from the top of the Corcovado mountain, you will instantly be reminded why this is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. After gazing in astonishment at the world-famous Christ the Redeemer statue, you’ll hop on your bike for a ride like no other! There is the opportunity for wildlife encounters along the way, with monkeys, toucans and other wild animals in this protected National Forest.

The Tajine is an iconic Moroccan cuisine – named after the dish in which it is cooked. This Moroccan masterclass will give you all the knowledge you need in tajine making and send you home with the skills to replicate the dish in your own kitchen. Get the insider tips from the locals and learn some of the Arabic words for key ingredients – all while cooking in the beautiful setting of a classic Moroccan riad.
