Description

PONANT invites you on an exceptional circuit between Canada, the United States and Mexico. During this 13-day cruise aboard L’Austral, you will notably have the opportunity to discover the mythical sites of California.

First, we will call at Victoria, named after the former queen of the United Kingdom. This tranquil city is reminiscent of England. You will stroll through the beautiful Butchart Gardens.

After two days of sailing, L’Austral will reach San Francisco on the West Coast of the United States for a lengthy stop as there is much to see and do. From Baker Beach, which starts at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge, you can admire spectacular views of the bridge and headlands.

Your ship will then take you to Los Angeles, the city of excess and cinema that no words can fully capture. You will discover the Hollywood Hills, the Walk of Fame, and of course Beverly Hills.

You will also discover San Diego, Southern California, where you will be able to gaze out at the stunning Torrey Pines Beach and where you will able to stroll around the historic Gaslamp Quarter.

You will finally set sail for Mexico with a port of call at Cabo San Lucas, a small town that is popular with the stars and famous for its rock formation emerging from the ocean, known as “Land’s End” or “El Arco”.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Day 1 - VANCOUVER
Verdant and cosmopolitan, Vancouver is one of Canadaメs most multi-cultural cities. Located in British Columbia on Canadaメs west coast, itメs surrounded by mountains and outdoor activities are popular. In the city, you can immerse yourself in the Asian atmosphere of bustling Chinatown, shop for pashminas and silk saris at the Punjabi Market Indian district and explore the historic area of ᅠGastown. Vancouver Art Gallery is known for works by regional artists, while the Museum of Anthropology houses important First Nations collections. Granville Island Jetty is a fascinating revitalised industrial area that hosts galleries, restaurants and a huge produce market.
Day 2 - Day 2 - VICTORIA
The capital of British Columbia lies to the south of Vancouver Island. The combination of British, European and Asian traditions and influences makes the dynamic city of Victoria a place of contrasts with a great quality of life. The mild climate, far from the rigours of the rest of Canada, means there are beautiful parks and gardens throughout the city. The narrow streets of Old Victoria will take you to Chinatown, the oldest and most colourful in Canada. Between mountain and ocean, forest and beaches, bathed by the warm Pacific currents, nature is exuberant. Marine life is abundant and many species of whales even come to reproduce in the bay.
Day 3 - Days 3 & 4 - AT SEA
During your day at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This day without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the PONANT photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observer marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.
Day 4 - Day 5 - SAN FRANCISCO
As America's third most popular tourist destination, this Californian city boasts an impressive cultural legacy. The main arteries of Van Ness Avenue, Market Street and the Embarcadero district are perfect for seafront strolling, as is the awe-inspiring Golden Gate Bridge, built in 1937 and a symbol of the San Francisco Bay. The bridge connects the city to the charming small town of Sausalito, a former hotbed of counter-culture turned boho enclave. Prepare to be bedazzled by its multicoloured floating homes. Among the dizzying array of curiosities to be discovered here, drop in to Chinatown, a veritable city within a city and home to the largest Chinese community outside of China.
Day 5 - Day 6 - MONTEREY
This old fishing port on the west coast of the United States is the former capital of California. Although the sardine trade has no longer been in operation since the 1950s, the little town has kept all its charm and authenticity. Especially thanks to its aquarium, one of the largest in North America, which presents more than 600 species of ocean marine fauna. You can stroll at your leisure in Fisherman's Wharf, a very pleasant marina that offers several restaurants and souvenir shops, not forgetting Cannery Row.
Day 6 - Day 7 - LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles or the Californian city of excess... The emblematic city of the United States West Coast is worthy of its reputation. The contrast between its glass skyscrapers soaring upwards in a breathtaking tangle of freeways and highways, its small bungalows and its nearly four million inhabitants makes the "city of angels" one of the most energetic places in the world. From Venice Beach to Hollywood via Beverly Hills, do not miss these world-famous places, testimony to the magic of the film industry and the American Way of Life. Also, fall under the spell of the most famous sidewalk in the world, the Walk of Fame, where the greatest stars have left their mark!
Day 7 - Day 8 - SAN DIEGO
To the south of California, close to the border with Mexico, San Diego enjoys a privileged natural environment on the shores of the Pacific. One of the largest fleets of US Navy vessels is stationed in this strategic port. The sunny climate and the beautiful sandy beaches compete for visitors’ attention with the picturesque historic districts such as the Gaslamp Quarter, always lit up at dusk by gas lamps, a real journey back in time. Do not miss Balboa Park and its museums as well as San Diego Zoo, one of the most beautiful zoos in the world, home to a large number of endangered species. But the show also continues on the surrounding beaches where it is not uncommon to come across sealions!

Day 11 - Day 13 - PUERTO VALLARTA
On Mexico’s Pacific Coast, Puerto Vallarta is a lively seaside resort that has been very popular since the biggest movie stars of the 1970s came to film in its enchanting setting. Protected by the verdant slopes of the peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental, the town is bathed by the gentle, calm and brilliant blue waters of the Bahía de Banderas. Don’t miss the chance to stroll along the colourful and paved little streets of old Vallarta, where many artisans and art galleries have taken up residence, and to admire the sunset over the bay from the Malecón (the promenade).
